love, love, love this book!!! i got it for a friend as a gift and i want to buy one for myself. there are so many different recipes and ideas and so simple. the title says it all... "recipes for the way you really cook". i like that the book gives recipes using box mix and also some from scratch ingredients, but with short ingredient lists and short prep time. book is spiral bound with hard cover. makes it perfect to sit on counter and it will stay open. sturdy cover makes it durable and you can prop it up or lay it flat. makes it convenient to leave open while baking to refer to it and it won't close on you like glue binding books. love that it has photos to show decorated cupcakes. wish it had photo for each recipe, but understand the book would be huge if they did that.i also am excited to see that on last page of the book there are more books in this series. i need to decide which one to buy next!!

Bought this for my niece for her first cupcake cookbook. She absolutely loved it and the cupcakes were wonderful!
I love this book. It's easy to find what you're looking for and the steps are easy to follow. I do, however, recommend Betty Crocker's sister book on cakes and cupcakes. You will find ALL of the cupcakes in this book as well as some ideas for cakes. This book is good if you're going through a cupcake phase, like me, ad it's a simple reference book to find the cupcake you need, with simple steps and easy recipes.
I got this for my friend's teenage daughter because he is just getting into baking. I also got her the Betty Crocker Cookie Book. Love the Betty Crocker recipes. It's especially good too because it has picture of how the mixing and shaping should look as you go along and also has handy helpful tips on baking. She loved all the different kinds of recipes in it, just for cupcakes.

I love cupcakes. I think they're an easy way to make dessert, prepare a gift, or just have fun. This book has a lot of cute ideas on how to decorate them beyond the usual frosting and sprinkles. It has suggestions for everything, from kids' parties to weddings, from the whimsical to the elegant, and for all seasons and holidays. If you're looking for inspiration on how to decorate your cupcakes, this is a great book to flip through. The ideas are simple and easy to make. And if you need further instruction (or if, like me, you're inept with a pastry bag), you can go to [...]. In the baking section there are videos that can teach you the basics. Happy decorating!
...then this is the cookbook for you! Okay, so it's not my nature to argue with the editors over at Betty Crocker. I own many Betty Crocker cookbooks, and some of them rank as favorites in my rather extensive cookbook collection. Unfortunately, I think this one is lacking.
Unlike the two other cupcake cookbooks I purchased at the same time (Crazy About Cupcakes and 125 Best Cupcake Recipes), there are very few "from scratch" recipes in this cookbook. It is mainly augmentations of cake mixes. While I appreciate the Sandra Lee-esque ease of this, it's just not my preference. This is not to say there aren't appealing ideas in this book -- but I think many of us could "invent" these without a cookbook.
I do think that there are several good decorating ideas here -- especially for kids -- which is what warrants at least 3 stars. The photos are great, and I feel like I could replicate many of the decorating ideas. I will take these ideas and apply them to the recipes I have in the other two cupcake cookbooks.
